A bit about me...

I’m a documentary wedding photographer living in Edinburgh, (I’m originally from the west coast) and cover weddings all over Scotland and beyond.

I photographed my first wedding in 2004, when I was still at college, for one of my college buddies. He too is now a wedding photographer and also a ‘John S’, weird eh?

Taking pictures of brides being held up by grizzly men isn’t my thing, but if any of your guests want to do that to me I might just let them.

I’m a pretty relaxed person and very much enjoy being around people and having a chat which I think is good for someone who is a wedding photographer, it’s all about the people!

I totally love my wee family. I’m a father of twin girls, hootenanny! That’s them down below there. Aw, look at their wee fizzogs 🙂 I raise them with my partner in crime, Grace. She’s a legend!

I have on the odd occasion helped the father of the bride get dressed into a kilt ( but that’s not an official part of the service!) And after watching so many guys struggle with their kilt shoe laces I’m now a pro at helping with that. Just don’t ask me to tie a bowtie.

Once, the groom of a wedding I was shooting had a pre-wedding run UP ARTHUR’S SEAT (that’s him in the little blue shorts there) so I went up ahead of him to get some shots of that. I went in my kilt. And forgot my beard by the looks of it.

Can you beat a yum-yum? No you bloody can’t. I flipping love a yum-yum so much so, that years ago when I left a job some of my ace old workmates made me this amazing print as a leaving present.

TV that tickles my chuckley-bits: The Office, Extras, Peep Show, The Mighty Boosh, Flight of the Concords.

I like bicycles. I like being outside on a bike, maybe just for an hour but maybe also ten hours! I like tinkering with bicycles. I like swearing at bicycles. When I’m up for it I like doing the 85 mile Etape Caledonia “race” *

I once played drums for Damo Suzuki from Can! There’s me and the bigman on the right there with the other cool musicians from Wozniak, Boredoms and Optic Nerve. After the gig he told me to “have a nice life” I think that means we’re BFF now.

I like to horrify my lady-love with tee-shirts from all teh gigs I go to.

I REALLY hate it when I type ‘teh’ instead of ‘the’, oh man I really do hate taht.

But I bloody love going to a wedding!

At your wedding I will absolutely get in amongst the fun to make sure you have the best images of the day that you’ve spent so much time and energy planning.

Food again: a curry trip to the Mosque Kitchen at least twice a month is high on my agenda.

I climb mountains and often get to the top in thick cloud. It’s still rare fun with a good group of pals though.
